Nautika Restaurant

We ate at Nautika Restaurant our first night in Dubrovnik. Nautika lies on the edge of the sea, alongside the western entrance to Dubrovnik's Old City. The restaurant is housed in the former Dubrovnik School of Maritime Studies, where it welcomed seafarers as far back as 1881.

Nautika Restaurant

Nautika was recognized as sixth most romantic restaurant in the world by Condé Nast Traveller magazine. Its cliffside terrace offers breathtaking views of the Adriatic and the fortresses of Lovrijenac and Bokar.

Our beaming waiter

Nautika specializes in seafood dishes that are specific to the Dalmatian coast. There were lots of enticing dishes to choose from on the menu. We started with the scallops and the trio of seafood delicacies.

Both dishes were beautifully presented. The scallops were served with potato and kale cakes; a nice combination of flavors. Of the trio of fresh Dalmatian delicacies – tuna tartare, lobster and sea urchin meat, and prawns – the prawns were the most interesting. They were perfectly poached and served on a bed of fresh cucumber and cheese. The cucumber added crunch and the cheese offered a creamy, sharp taste to the prawns, which had been marinated in olive oil, white wine and lemon.

Adriatic Scallops - black Istrian truffle flakes, potato and kale cakes

Trio of Seafood Delicacies - marinated prawns, lobster and sea urchin meat, tuna tartare

For our main courses, we shared the sea bass and the lobster tail pasta. The sweet tender lobster atop perfectly cooked homemade pasta was a nice dish. But the sea bass was outstanding. The sweet acidic preparation perfectly complimented the tender fish and its crispy skin.

Sea Bass Fillet - served on a bed of mini tomatoes, olive oil and vanilla emulsion

Lobster Tail - homemade pasta with broad beans, tomato, onion and rosemary

Our first dinner in Croatia ended with a sweet finish – a yummy "chocolate square" dessert!
